Isolationism and the Devil theory of war were very popular in the USA in the 20s and 30s. It was the main political point of the Republicans. Because of this, the USA stayed out of the Leauge of Nations, tried to remain out of European affairs and tried to protect the economy of the USA by Protectionism. But there were also exceptions from Isolationism. The USA was involved in several economy projects and the also formally recognized Stalin´s Russia in 1933 to have a strong partner against the rising Fascism.
