In June 1941, Germany attacked Russia on a 2000 mile front and so broke the non-aggression pact. The Red Army was surprised of the Blitzkrieg tactics and they had to fall back before the German Army. However, the Russian peasants started scorched earth policy to make the Germans starving. Nevertheless, the German army advanced unstoppable, they captured he most important parts of Russia and reached the outskirts of Moscow. But a very cold winter made the Germans stop their advance.
